New Zealand Launches National Gambling Awareness Campaign as Online Gambling Increases

New Zealand’s government has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about the risks of online gambling as the popularity of digital casinos and sports betting continues to grow. The campaign focuses on educating players about responsible gambling, offering tools such as self-exclusion options and helplines for those who feel they may be developing a gambling problem.

The campaign is backed by the Department of Internal Affairs, which has also proposed new regulations to further restrict online gambling advertisements, particularly those targeting younger audiences. The government aims to strike a balance between fostering a competitive gambling market and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from gambling addiction.

Despite these efforts, critics warn that the growth of unregulated offshore gambling platforms continues to pose a challenge for local authorities. Some are calling for a more comprehensive national licensing system to ensure that all gambling activities within the country are properly regulated.
