Ireland has established its first national Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRAI) to oversee the rapidly expanding gambling industry. The authority has been tasked with licensing operators, enforcing compliance, and promoting responsible gambling practices.
One of GRAI’s first initiatives is the introduction of a self-exclusion scheme covering both online and land-based gambling. The authority is also working on new rules to limit advertising and prevent underage gambling.
Industry experts have welcomed the creation of GRAI, noting that it fills a long-standing regulatory gap. However, implementing the new framework will require significant resources and coordination with other government agencies.
