Philippines Seeks to Revive POGO Industry Amid Controversy

The Philippine government is taking steps to revive its struggling Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) industry, which has faced declining revenues and increasing scrutiny over links to criminal activities.

A new policy framework aims to tighten licensing requirements, enhance tax compliance, and crack down on illegal operators. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has also launched a campaign to restore public confidence in the industry.

While the POGO sector once contributed significantly to the Philippine economy, its reputation has been tarnished by allegations of human trafficking, tax evasion, and money laundering. Policymakers hope that stricter oversight will address these issues, but critics remain skeptical.
