Mid-summer doldrums, perhaps? But there has been some news of interest:
- U.S. political news this week featured threats to the Clean Air Act and other environmental protections as well as transportation spending. As these are proposals from the House, expect controversy and debate to continue for some time.
- Examples of big business and private philanthropy being key players in ecological restoration (here and here) and in urban revitalization. In the case of BP, it’s hard to get too excited, as the money is a payoff for the Gulf oil spill disaster.
- Just in case you need something new to worry about – there’s a warning that the world’s best reserves of phosphorus about to be depleted, spelling disaster for the global food supply unless we figure out a way to stop wasting it.
- And, in case you need something to smile about, my favorite video find of the week, courtesy of treehugger.com and the BBC. Be sure to see the goshawk in the second half of the video.
