Where is this blog headed? Continue reading to find out. So far, there have been several posts on the economy and jobs in landscape architecture, and a recent segue into the implications for education. A few more first-hand accounts by recent and not-so-recent grads will round out this part of the “Recession Watch” category. Praxis? These posts are reflections on the relationship between the practice experiences of graduates and how they are prepared for practice. Landscape architecture education will continue to be a prominent theme, as will the idea of reflective practice.
Areas that will be developed much further are Ecology and Design (no posts yet), linked to the categories of Design Practice and Landscape Planning, which is the umbrella for several other categories: Agriculture, Climate, Green Infrastructure, and Parks (so far). Praxis, reflection on practice as I am interpreting it, for Ecology and Design will focus on what exactly that relationship is (between ecology and design) and whether or not we live up to our claims. The Landscape Planning category will feature environmental, natural resources, and land use topics. The praxis focus here will be on the relationships between science, local government decision making, and on-the-ground, neighborhood-scale realities. [Update: reading this 2 months later, and not sure this is the least bit clear…]
New York State will also be featured in many of the posts, as it is the home of this author. Landscape planning topics, in particular, will have a Northeastern U.S. slant.
And what else? I hope that might be guided by what generates interests among readers. Let me know what you are thinking!
